Washington, DC - The Hamilton - Last night was a double whammy. Photographing one of my top 5 bands in one of my top 5 venues. The Hamilton is state of the art and top notch. EKB is a super group of talent. Put those two things together and you know that the evening is going to pop off right from the start.

Every now and then someone reaches out to me to photograph something for them, and I've never met the client before - This is one of those situations. What made this pretty special for me is that he found me on Instagram. Most of my business is found via word of mouth, a friend of a friend, etc. But for a total stranger to see my work on social media and hire me to capture such a important day in their life....damn does that make me feel good.

Light City is now in its second year here in Baltimore, MD and it has grown a bit this time around. With more installations, and bigger and better ones at that, the people really came out on Saturday to check out what it had to offer.

I had the pleasure of not only getting to photograph this portrait of Eric Krasno Band, but I was able to hang and relax back stage while the band warmed up and relaxed (I event got to sing some Grateful Dead songs with them).

From Soulive to Lettuce and every sit in between - Eric Krasno has been one of my favorite guitars players since jam bands woke me from a musical slumber. I remember hearing the first single off the new album and anticipating the entire album for a few months. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint and its still on constant rotation on my record player.

Top 50 Photos of 2016

Narrowing down a years worth of photos is not something I prefer to do....ever. But every year I spend a few days looking through all my edited work with the intention of maybe breaking down the thousands to 200 great edits. This year after days of staring at said work, I finally came up with a batch of 154. After a few more days, lots of more photo shoots, countless hours of editing and a half dozen five hour energies, I sat back down to navigate through this mess of photos one last time.

First time I set my eyes on big something was at the Camp Barefoot festival in West Virginia in 2009. When sitting at my camp site a neighbor approuched me with a backpack full of flyers and posters of the band. It was his soul purpose to flood the festival with awareness of, at the time, a small band from North Carolina, and turn them into a staple of the festival circuit. Seven years later, you can see this band opening up for massive bands all across the country in club and at festivals.

Every year us Baltimorians are blessed to have our hometown hero play the music of Jerry Garcia at our beloved 8x10 Club i Federal Hill. This year felt like something a bit more special than the average performance. With two SOLD OUT nights and a packed house the night before in D.C, dead heads and Jerry fans packed in the club and let it all out.

I made this video a while back after a few people asked about a few techniques and how I get that "look" that my photos always have. This was also my first video I ever made. When it comes down to it, im showing you how to take a photo, duplicate it, over sharpen it, and blend them into one glorious photo for everyone to enjoy.

I lived in Philadelphia for about four years. I went to college, I started a small business and had some really incredible friends. I saw hundreds of concerts and walked thousands of blocks. But one thing I never did was go to the abandoned giant that is EASTERN STATE PENITENTIARY.

It started as a mistake. As a photo walk that was going to end early. When me and a friend photographed spots that I had been to a half dozen times. It was then that I cracked the surface of a building that would change the way I saw everything else around me.
I was certainly not the first person to find this building and will not be the last, but I have now spent almost 5 years photographing one building, and I'm nowhere near done.

When TAUK first started hitting the scene, I couldn't get enough of them. And since that moment, nothing has changed. From seeing them at The 8x10 residency to big festivals across the country and even the small ones in between, I never miss a show when they come to my home town.

As many of you know, bluegrass is kinda my life. From being a cofounder of the Charm City Bluegrass Festival, to playing with many bluegrass groups in Maryland, there is never a moment in my life that the style of music isnt present.
