The lost yet not forgotten spot of North East Philly. I have been hanging out in this hood for over 5 years, living here from now a year (now a year and a hald .. update: 8/23/2020). But it wasn't until I was fully moved in in April of 2019 that I finally visited this legendary spot. I first started posting photos of this place when I first photographed it.

If anyone knows me, they know my love for trains. About two years ago I started using the amtrak to commute from Baltimore to Philadelphia for work. It opened up a new world of travel for me. When moving to Philadelphia in April, the subway system became a major part of my way of getting from point A to point B, and beyond. I was asked by a new client to make a mood board of my choice, and I chose the EL (Market Frankford Line). Without it, I would be riding my bike so much more then I already do. This year after days of staring at said work, I finally came up with a batch of 154. After a few more days, lots of more photo shoots, countless hours of editing and a half dozen five hour energies, I sat back down to navigate through this mess of photos one last time.

I lived in Philadelphia for about four years. I went to college, I started a small business and had some really incredible friends. I saw hundreds of concerts and walked thousands of blocks. But one thing I never did was go to the abandoned giant that is EASTERN STATE PENITENTIARY.

It started as a mistake. As a photo walk that was going to end early. When me and a friend photographed spots that I had been to a half dozen times. It was then that I cracked the surface of a building that would change the way I saw everything else around me.
I was certainly not the first person to find this building and will not be the last, but I have now spent almost 5 years photographing one building, and I'm nowhere near done.
