I was introduced to Dan by a mutual friend while out enjoy beverages in my glorious neighborhood of Fishtown in Philadelphia.
Through fine discussion of the best (and worst) jam bands in the scene and our favorite places to ear around New York and Philadelphia, it was a pretty instant friendship. At a minimum, a let’s definitely hang out and drink together…teach me your ways wine wizard.
My wife and I had him over for a dinner where we cooked and supplied the wine, we had a nice bonfire in the backyard and conversed about so much. From wine regions to your least favorite Phish song. Even busted out my machete to take some slaps at splitting some wood.
Fast forward a few weeks, Dan and I got together to shoot some portraits to help with the branding of his company and his expansion (for lack of a better word). Dan was living in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Philly to pursue his wine expertise in the form of private pairings with some of his favorite chefs in the region. His company is called, SANTE. And you can find them on socials and in the minds of some incredibly cool people spreading the word around New York City and Philadelphia (links below gallery). Ive done four sessions with Dan, one being a private dinning experience in his own home. It was so well executed from top to bottom, from first glass of wine, to last meal course.. even pouring fun wines into peoples mouth as a party trick (works every time).
Point of me sharing this is two reasons: Im proud of these portraits and my growth in that world of picture taking. And to promote a man and company that I truly believe in and know is bringing joy into people lives in the form of wine and food. Bringing people together, and educating them on things we all think we know so much about.
From his bio: Daniel Solway is a Philadelphia-based sommelier and wine specialist. He has worked in the food & wine industry for many years, waxing poetic in New York bottle shops and getting his hands dirty in vineyards across Europe. Daniel’s specialty is in natural wine, and his favorite winemakers have a minimal intervention approach in both the vineyard and the cellar. He is committed to making wine more accessible, sustainable, and enjoyable. He loves large format bottles, porròns, and bringing a little ruckus to the party.
